Classified Information Security Training

The National Industrial Security Program Operating Manual (NISPOM) provides baseline standards for the protection of classified information released or disclosed to industry in connection with classified contracts under the NISP.  Security trainings and briefings are part of the required standards. Training and briefings include:

  1. Initial Security Briefings - Prior to being granted access to classified information, an employee shall receive an initial security briefing that includes the following:
    • A threat awareness briefing.
    • A defensive security briefing.
    • An overview of the security classification system.
    • Employee reporting obligations and requirements.
    • Security procedures and duties applicable to the employee's job.
  2. Refresher Training - Security training that reinforces the initial concepts is required for all cleared employees annually.
    • 2008 Refresher Training - The pdf presentation, "Protecting Classified & Sensitive Information" (click title at left to open the presentation) provides required refresher training for all cleared personnel for 2008. Please review the training materials carefully and send an email to bruce.edwardsjr@louisville.edu by July 31, 2008 with the following statement:

I have read and understood the training materials, "Protecting Classified & Sensitive Information", and will apply this knowledge to exercise my responsibilities with regards to all classified information, for official use only (FOUO) or “sensitive” information.

Please contact Bruce Edwards if you have questions regarding any of the information presented in the training materials.
  3. Debriefings - Contractors shall debrief cleared employees at the time of termination of employment, when an employee's security clearance is terminated and upon termination of the FCL.
